September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in the US where one out of every nine men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. For an interactive map of rates of prostate cancer around the world, along with rates of other cancers, visit the PRI Global Cancer Map.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) created the Eat It to Beat It challenge for the 2020 Prostate Cancer Awareness Month to invite supporters to eat 30 healthy foods in 30 days. Visit the challenge website to take pledge and join many others in making health choices and raising awareness about prostate cancer.

Extra kudos to PCF for their annual Blue Jacket Fashion Show each February that brings together the fashion, entertainment, sports, and media worlds to raise awareness and funding for prostate cancer research.

What to Wear | Prana

We've been big fans of Prana since the early 2000s. They were initially major players in the yoga apparel world but as they've grown, their categories expanded and now include a broad range of apparel for climbing, travel, and general activewear.

Above you'll find their 2017 Holberg Full Zip Sweater, a great casual zip sweater with a sporty stripe down the arm.

Their range of sustainable materials and textiles includes organic cotton, recycled wool, hemp, recycled polyester, responsible down, fair trade, Fair Labor Association, and responsible forest materials.

Leading Lady - Madeleine Pickens

Thoroughbred breeder Madeleine Pickens has turned her love for horses into a solution for horses. Now she's turned her keen eye, perserverance, and intuition on finding a way to protect and preserve lands for wild mustangs across the West. She's testified before Congress to establish new lands for the mustangs that could save taxpayers over $700 million over the next 10 years.

Leading Men | Nelson Philippe

The Indy 500 organizers have raised the green flag for expanding the use of ethanol at the event. Ethanol has been around the Indy and other races for a while, but its use is gaining in popularity. Even better is that Indy organizers and promoters are using the opportunity to educate fans about the issues as well. One team that's getting a lot of interest is that of rookie driver Nelson Philippe who has plans to "shift the Indy 500 into neutral" - carbon neutral that is - with his iDrive Green initiative. At age 20, Philippe was the youngest champ car drivers when he debuted and was one of the youngest drivers to win a race. Now he's pushing green driving bigtime, partnered with Eco Driving USA, and helped launch Indy Goes Green. Watch an interview with Philippe on Fox below:

Patagonia print boxers

The 2008 holiday season has arrived and if you're looking for practical planet-friendly gifts for him with good design...look no further. Patagonia's printed organic boxers are both comfortable and contemporary with their great graphic design. Guys...hold on to your shorts...these boxers might get nabbed by your girlfriend faster than you can say "where's the mistletoe?"

Solar Powered Prada

Its always great to see major fashion houses test the sustainable waters. Prada's new solar powered watch does just that. Just a little sunlight goes a long way with this watch and it even checks the time with an internal radio reciever. You just can't beat low impact high tech. This fancy timepiece will set you back just a little over $2,000, but that's not so bad compared to what some watches are going for these days and this one does its part for the planet too. Available in Europe only.
